Used Scuba Diving Equipment – I’ve only been on a couple of dives and need a little help buying my first scuba kit.

I will be doing shallow dives at first (I think 60 feet or less is considered shallow, is it not?), before moving on to deeper dives. Will be primarily in cold fresh water lakes and in tropical oceans perhaps once or twice a year.

Money is not a big concern, would rather get a good kit now than have to re buy my equipment as I gain in experience and move on to deeper dives. Not sure whether or not a Nitrox kit is necessary or not, what would you recommend? What is required in upgrading a scuba kit to nitrox?

Also, when filling tanks for regular air mixtures, is it simply regular air (21%). Is a specialized compressor needed? Are they expensive? Can I simply buy a new compressor that will only be used for my breathing apparatus?

Thanks.

Any other tips you might think of will help. I am scheduled to take a PADI course soon, however they are far away and I am not able to stop in and talk.

I'm eager to hear your comments...

Used Scuba Diving Equipment – What kind of regular maintenance is involved when I buy a full scuba kit (including tank)?

If I decide to buy a tank, should I go aluminum or steel? I will be diving primarily in cold, fresh water lakes in canada, and doing perhaps two tropical ocean dives per year, if that matters.

Most of the dives in the large lakes near me are between 50 to 120 feet deep. There are one or two that are approaching 200. I have only gone for 4 dives so far, at 40 feet deep in clear tropical water, what is a safe depth for me to tell the divemaster I am comfortable with?

As I progress, I would like (of course) to attempt the deeper dives, does this mean that I should have equipment that is Nitrox compatable? Is Nitrox used for shallower (50 ft?) dives?

Has anyone heard of TriMix gas? I’m having a hard time finding info this…

Thanks very much for all the earlier answers guys. Went diving the first time down in Cuba a month ago, and I see scuba tanks in my sleep now! Any additional tips?

Ronnie Nicole

Used Scuba Diving Equipment – And Lloyd Bridges alleging breach of contract, breach of warranty and fraud in connection with the sale of a modified air compressor.

Seahunt is a corporation organized under the laws of Florida and engaged in various aspect of the scuba diving business. Part of its trade includes the sale of air compressors used to fill scuba diving tanks. Flipper is a corporation organized under the laws of Virginia. It operates a dive shop in Cancun, Mexico.

Flipper learned about Seahunt from a nationally distributed magazine, Scuba Times. They telephoned Seahunt to see if they could provide a compressor that could fill 75-100 tanks an hour. Seahunt said that they could and sold Flipper a modified, super fast compressor. It didn’t work as well as advertised, it was much slower. It leaked and overheated. Seahunt could not fix the problem and would not pay Flipper back their money.

At trial it was learned that Lloyd commingled Seahunt’s operating funds with his personal bank accounts. Seahunt operates out of a building owned by Lloyd and his wife and the business pays the mortgage as well as paying rent to the Bridges. Lloyd testified that some years the property is carried on Seahunt’s books as a corporate asset and in other years it is not. A similar arrangement exists with respect to an automobile owned by Lloyd. The corporation does not own the automobile, but it has been carried on Seahunt’s books as a fixed asset. Seahunt makes the car payments.

Can Lloyd and his wife escape personal liability by asserting that the corporation is solely liable? State the reasons for your opinion.

Used Scuba Diving Equipment – You have to have one item only, no more, and this item cannot be a large machine (e.g. scuba diving equipment does not count as one item, it has many parts to it). Please also tell me how you would use the item.
P.S. Depth is 10-20m so snorkels won’t work =S
Using a balloon/bucket to trap air would be hard to hold on to because of the density of air. Therefore, suggestions like these will not work =(
As for the hosepipe idea, do you know how much energy would be required to **** air through that? And also, when you removed your mum from the hosepipe, water to go into it… =S
oops soz ppl, forgot about that, yeah, you’re underwater (20m-ish)
There is a solution to this, and anyone can do it (not just Olympic swimmers or something).

Used Scuba Diving Equipment – Okay so I sold off all my old equipment before I moved a few years ago as I was not going to be needing it or using it while I was away and it was too bulky to take with me on the off chance I would be using it.
So my question is what is the best out there at the moment to buy not only a BCD but the whole lot a new computer, diving watch, mask, fins all of it right down to a new diving knife and torch.

Used Scuba Diving Equipment – I saw a diver today at a cove with a tank that was half size. He said he uses it for the shallow reef dives. It look REALLY comfortable. Are these sufficient to do 30 ft dives? I **** all the equipment… I only do easy dives here (SoCal).. Would this be a good option for me?
