Scuba Diving Computer – I own a Suunto Cobra dive computer and really like the brand and model. Its easy to use, reliable and trusted.
I dive most weekends up to 20 metres on standard air although I will be going deeper and using Nitrox shortly and the Cobra can cover this also.

My fiance has taken up diving and really enjoys it – I think it’ll be a life-long hobby (yeah!). She does’nt have a dive computer yet (decompression tables need to be used and known inside and out first!).

I would be happy with her getting any Suunto BUT I know algorithms vary by manufacturer and/or model?
SO………If the algorithms vary then presumably the decompression stops etc shown will vary on 2 different computers on the same dive. I know the manufacturers err on the side of caution but if I were to buy another Suunto for her we would be relying on a single algorithm.

I guess my questions are…
1. Is it *entirely* safe to rely on 1 brand (along with dive tables of course)?

2. Do the decompression stop depth and times etc vary very much between manufacturers?

Scuba Diving Computers – I would like to know if i need to go through the extra expense of buying a second one for my wife. They are very expensive. Surely using the dive tables and a single computer is ok? Or is this not recommended? Or is it a definite no-no?

Scuba Diving Computer – I need to know where to get the BEST POSSIBLE prices beause I got my certification recently (I’m 16) and want to carry on diving for studies and leisure. I could buy it in pieces, but want to know where to get the BEST deal. After all, I’m only 16 and can only afford so much at certain times. I know I have enough for all of it put together, but just want to find out where to get it at good quality for as low price as possible. But it has to be good quality. Thanks

Scuba Diving Computer – I got a vagary watch for Christmas. Its suppose to be a diving watch. Anyway, after flipping through the manual it says that this is NOT a scuba -diving watch. However, it can record the number of dives, the pressure, the ascending rate, and the profundity. I understand that this is NOT a diving computer and I shouldn’t dive without using a professional dive computer in parallel.

So my question is, can I use this watch while scuba diving, or can it only be used for short underwater activities such as snorkeling?

scubabob: thanks for the price info. Where is your LDS?. Does he have a website? Why do you ask about nitrox? I thought this dive computer was both air/nitrox. Anyway, I am a new recreational diver, with only 8dives (max 95ft), and planning another trip to the caribbean for another 7-8dives in june. I don’t own any of the equipment, and wanted to buy the basic (fins, mask and maybe 3mm wetsuit) + dive computer. Based on my needs I am looking at entry level models for the computer as well as basic equipment. Maybe you or your LDS can suggest a sub $200 dive computer for my needs, as well as decent mask, fins, wetsuit.. send me a private if u want. thanks for the info.
forgot to say, I live near NYC, where most LDS are highly overpriced since they cater to certain customers with lots of disposable income.. I don’t fit the bill

Scuba Diving Computer – Some buddies and I are looking to take a 6 month dive master training expedition in Mexico. I already have mask, snorkel, gloves, boots, and fins.

But how much should I pay for
-BC
-wetsuit
-regulator
-dive computer.

Where should I shop?… Used vs. new? Ballpark prices?

Scuba Diving Computer – I’ve got my Open Water and logged enough basic hours to start thinking about starting buy my own kit.

What should be first on my list, and what would logically follow? I wear glasses and my girlfriend is treating me to a prescription pair for my birthday, so no need to wrry about them.

I’m guessing wetsuit, fins, BCD, regulator, dive computer/ watch? How about a good quality knife, or is this not really needed at my stage (I am planning on wreck diving in the near future, though).

Scuba Diving Computer – HELP! Do you own a Scubapro UWATEC Aladin Prime 3 dive computer? Can I use ANY infrared to transfer?
I cannot transfer dives out of my dive computer to my desk top PC.

1. I hounded the dive shop owner to show me, the Newbee, how to use the expensive piece of equipment he sold me. Even on the trip, he sat and could not figure it out.
